There has been almost 100% compliance with the ban. Any one rebelling against it would be flogging a long deceased donkey. For the long suffering non-smokers, a night out no longer means returning home in the small hours smelling like an ash tray.
As it is widely held that an ex smoker will experiences the health benefits of smoking cessation almost immediately, tens of thousands of lives are expected to be saved so over the next ten years. In Scotland, where the smoking ban was first set up, authorities there expect Scotland to be free of lung cancer by 2020.
Pollution in pubs is down by 91% since the smoking ban was introduced a year ago.
The tide is now moving against smoking outside buildings. There’s a notice in the corridor at my Harley Street practice advising smokers not to stand at the door but to walk at least 5 metres away from the door. Smoking is only going to become an even greater convenience (and that’s without even considering the cost which ought to have been a deterrent to any sane thinking person in the first place. But most started too young to consider the price they were paying to look cool and fit in. If it is true that smoking takes ten years off a smoker’s life, does this mean that a 30 year old smoker is actually 40.
What percentage of those now walking about free from the control of smoking did so from hypnotherapy is not known. Maybe the NHS will be collating data and share this at some point.
The NHS of course has been pushing the use of smoking. The effectiveness of smoking patches and their side effect can be the subject of much animated debate.
I believe that any smoker considering a clean and liberating break from smoking should consider hypnotherapy. And if you think stopping smoking is expensive, can you really afford not to stop smoking? It isn't too late to join the next 400,000 contented ex-smokers.
