A US study of 51 women undergoing menopause has revealed that hypnotherapy provides significant relief from hot flushes. The results of the study were published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology and revealed that of the 51 women, 26 received hypnotherapy treatment for hot flushes during menopause. Compared to those that did not receive hypnosis treatment, the group that did, reported a 68% decrease in hot flush symptons. In addition, the hypnotic relaxation exercises had the added benefit of the ladies treated better sleep and improved social interaction. The United Kingdom's Nursing Times has an article on this, lending support to the idea of hypnotherapy as a natural, sympton free treatment that can benefit the effects of menopause. These results have been encouraging enough for further studies of a larger group of women over a longer period of time to be undertaken. The average age of women entering menopause is 49, but it can occur much earlier, and in some cases, later. Common symptons include difficulty sleeping, forgetfulness, irritability, and hot flushes. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is commonly offered, but conflicting reports of the side effects of HRT cause many women to shun HRT as treatment for HRT. If you are experiencing menopause and its side effects, speak to your GP about referring you to a hypnotherapist to explore how hypnotherapy can improve your quality of life.
